Submission Requirements for Wound Care Canada
If you are interested in submitting an article to Wound Care Canada,
please read the information below.
Submitting an Idea for an Article
We are constantly looking for potential authors for Wound Care Canada.
If you have an idea for an article, please submit a short proposal to
WCCeditor@cawc.net outlining
your idea.
1) Include an abstract of the proposed article, along with the name(s)
and credentials of the author(s).
2) Accompany your summary (abstract) with a list of resources, such as
photos or illustrations, tables, charts, or sidebar materials, etc. You
do not need to include the actual items in the proposal, just a list outlining
what you have available to enhance the article.
3) Indicate how many words you expect the article to be (note that Wound
Care Canada articles tend to have fewer than 3000 words).
4) Indicate how much time you would need in order to have the article
ready. We plan our issues fairly far in advance, so a lead time of six
months or more is not uncommon. However, we also accept articles with
less lead time.
Once you have submitted an idea, our team of editors will include it
in the line-up of possible items for an upcoming issue. If it fits into
our planning, you will be notified. We will then discuss with you the
length, timing, and in some cases, the slant we'd like to see. This most
often happens when we have a theme or complementary article.
The technical requirements for submitting materials are as follows:
Submitting Materials
Articles and accompanying photos and illustrations should be submitted
electronically as e-mail attachments if the total submission is less than
2 Mb in size to sue.rosenthal@utoronto.ca (unless otherwise specified).
If the total submission is larger than 2 Mb mail a CD to:
Sue Rosenthal, Editor
604-90 Dale Avenue
Toronto, Ontario
M1J 3N4
Tel: 416-267-4267
If submitting via CD include a printed copy of the article for reference.
The article should be formatted as a Microsoft Word (.doc) or Wordperfect
(.wpd) file. Text embedded in PDF, Publisher, Corel or Powerpoint files
cannot be accepted.
Either PC or Macintosh format will be accepted.
Each submission must include the names and affiliations of all authors
and the contact information of the principal author.
Images
Photographs in digital form should be high-resolution (300 dpi) .tif or
.eps files, saved at the anticipated published size. Files should be greyscale
or CMYK colour-space (not RGB). Photographic prints and transparencies
can be accepted for scanning. The size of prints should not exceed 8 x
10 inches. Previously published halftone material and computer inkjet
prints are not suitable for scanning.
Illustrations should be Illustrator (.ai) or high-resolution (300 dpi)
.tif or .eps files. Files should be greyscale or CMYK colour-space (not
RGB).
Photos and illustrations embedded in Word, WordPerfect, PDF, Publisher,
Corel or Powerpoint files are not suitable for publication. To ensure
the images are placed correctly, indicate clearly in the text document
the position of insertion for each photo/illustration. Include captions/titles
in the text document.
Submissions with many files should include a summarized list of the file
names. Please make sure file names are meaningful and not too generic.
If in doubt, ask. We can help.
Sidebars
We strongly encourage authors to create summary sidebars to their articles
to assist the readers in their understanding of the materials. These sidebars
might contain a summary, in point form, of what the article is about,
key learning points, how-to steps or other quick reference details.
Submitting Previously Published Materials
Articles submitted to this publication cannot have been published elsewhere
in substantially similar form or with substantially similar content. Authors
in doubt about what constitutes prior publication should consult the editor.
Copyright
Wound Care Canada holds the copyright for materials submitted to
it for publication. However, our policy is to freely share published information.
We are often asked for permission to reprint our articles in other publications
and we are inclined to always grant permission as long as the publication
is a reputable one. Even though the magazine holds the copyright, if a
reprint request is made, the author will be contacted and will have the
final say on the request.
Selection Process
All articles submitted will be chosen for publication based on the discretion
of our editorial team. All articles are subject to content and style editing.
Articles are not guaranteed to run in the next issue date, and may be
held for a future issue. Article selection and editing may take time,
and your patience is appreciated.
