Scholarship Terms and Conditions

Please note that the CAWC does not discriminate among applicants on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation or marital status. The selection process is blinded, and the applications are evaluated using a standardized assessment tool by the scholarship committee.

Research scholarship applications are reviewed by the Research Committee using a similar standardized assessment tool.

Applicants for any scholarship must be:

  • A member in good standing of a recognized Canadian health-care professional organization (e.g., Registered Nurse)
  • A member in good standing of the CAWC for at least one year at the time of the application (exception: applicants for the International Award).

The applicant must NOT be:

  • a member of the current Scholarship or Research committees of the CAWC
  • a member of the CAWC Board
  • an officer of the CAWC
  • an employee of the CAWC
  • a family member:
    • of a member of the current Scholarship or Research committees of the CAWC
    • of a member of the CAWC Board
    • of an officer of the CAWC
    • of an employee of the CAWC
  • in a direct employment relationship between the applicant and  any manufacturer or distributor of wound-care products (please note the “conflict of interest” area of the application form, which must be filled out in order for the application to be processed).
  • a family member of a person with an employment relationship with a manufacturer or distributor of wound-care products

Applicants may apply for ONLY ONE scholarship in any calendar year.

Please read the conditions of each scholarship to determine which one is most suitable.

Successful candidates will be expected to provide a (minimum) 250-word summary of their experience by September of the following year. This summary may be published on the CAWC Web site and/or in Wound Care Canada.

The Scholarship and/or Research committees reserve the right to forego awarding any scholarship if, in the assessment process, no applicant meets the minimum criteria.

Deadline for scholarship submission is TBA.

Applications must be submitted electronically. Faxed or hard-copy applications will not be accepted.

General description of scholarships:

Educational Scholarships are awarded for accredited courses of study in the field of wound care or related fields, as indicated by individual scholarship criteria. The course of study/program must be entered within six months or less from the time of confirmation of the scholarship.

Health-care professionals intending to increase their knowledge in the field of wound care through a post graduate course at a recognized college or university affiliated program are eligible.

The scholarship may also be used to attend a recognized wound-care conference such as CAWC, SAWC, WOCN, CAET, or a conference taking place overseas.

Research scholarships ($2500 each) are awarded for projects involving formal qualitative or quantitative research frameworks (with an expectation of appropriate Ethics Review Board documentation). See application form for details.
