Grand River Hospital, Kitchener-Waterloo is seeking a Full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist

Responsibilities
This position reports to the Professional Practice Officer. The primary role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is to champion, guide and lead the delivery of a comprehensive wound and ostomy program for patients at GRH.  This position functions in collaboration with the wound care consultant, to support the interdisciplinary patient care teams, patients and their families. The Clinical Nurse Specialist utilizes advanced knowledge, skill, clinical reasoning, problem-solving and critical thinking to support the provision of service throughout the lifespan.  The CNS achieves this through education, consultation, staff mentoring /coaching that is consistent with the mission, vision, objectives and accountabilities of Grand River Hospital with a goal to:        

  • Implement and support advanced would care products utilization processes.
  • Support, coach and model evidence based processes, structure and outcomes to ensure quality wound & skin care management.
  • Ensure implementation of effective wound care cost containment measures.        
  • Establish and implement a go forward plan and priorities for wound care initiatives at GRH through partnerships to ensure and enhance standardization of processes to continuity of patient care across region and LHIN.
  • Planning and delivery of staff education.
  • Provide consultation services to GRH.
  • Participate in research that supports the implementation of evidence into practice.        
  • Lead and support quality initiatives that will improve patient outcomes.        
  • Identify and monitor indicators to measure effectiveness of program

Qualifications         

  • Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses.        
  • Certification inadvanced wound education (IIWCC or equivalent) and certification in enterostomal therapy.        
  • Masters preparation in clinical health sciences.
  • Wound care expert with a minimum of 3 years current clinical practice or demonstrated clinical expertise .        
  • Advanced knowledge in health sciences research and evidence based curriculum development.
  • Studies in adult learning and health education an asset. Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate the development of educational programs for patients and families, staff and other professionals.        
  • Demonstrated skills in facilitating groups, team skills and effective communication.        
  • Advanced knowledge in developing and evaluating computer based patient care processes.        
  • Good attendance record.        
  • Demonstrated organization and project management skills

The Canadian Association of Wound Care, a not-for-profit health-care organization devoted to improving wound prevention and care in Canada, is currently seeking an outstanding individual eager to join our interprofessional team on a permanent part-time basis. The successful applicant will be based in the Toronto area and will work mostly from home.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Director of Communications and provide writing, editing and proofreading support for a variety of communications content (Web site, e-bulletins, magazine, promotional and educational materials)
  • Track all communications-related projects (timelines, resources, budget, version control)
  • Participate as a member of the organizational team, contributing to strategic direction and planning decisions, promoting collaboration, and actively participating in meetings
  • Update web sites through CMS (content management system) to ensure information is accurate, current and relevant
  • Track web site usage, generate usage reports and work with team to grow traffic
  • Co-ordinate incoming images and articles
  • Handle telephone and e-mail inquiries relating to communications activities (permissions, queries from authors, requests for reprints)
  • Contribute to the planning and organization of events
  • Complete research as required to support marketing/promotional/communication activities and other related projects
  • Assist subject matter experts in developing articles
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated, flexible and disciplined team player adept at multi-tasking and prioritizing
  • Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills in both English and French, with ability to change tone, style and messaging to suit audience needs
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business, Communications Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or English, or equivalent experience
  • 3 + years relevant experience and a solid portfolio demonstrating successful writing, editing and project management
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Web browsers; understanding of web-based applications and programs (HTML, Web Content Management System) an asset
  • Must own computer suitable for handling wide range of communications-related activities

UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA
DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY

The University of British Columbia Department of Surgery invites applications for the position of Research Associate in its Division of Plastic Surgery.  The Research Associate will work in the BC Professional Firefighters Association Burn and Wound Healing Research Lab at the Jack Bell Research Centre, to study pathological wound healing mechanisms, particularly hypertrophic scarring and other mechanisms of adverse effect. 

Applicants must hold a PhD in molecular biology, with specialization in biotechnology, and show strong knowledge of gene cloning and expression, particularly viral gene transferring techniques gene and protein arrays. Candidates must demonstrate potential to construct and use adenoviral/lentiviral vectors to deliver the gene of interest in a diabetic model. Experience in islet isolation and transplantation is a strong asset. Sound knowledge is required of immunology and allogenic tolerance to identify genes in this process using gene silencing, signal transduction pathways and nuclear factors. Demonstrated potential is required in lab management and supervision of research projects concerning severely diabetic, burned, immunocompromised, and elderly patients. At least 3 years’ experience in collecting and analysing research data, writing scientific articles and assisting with writing grant proposals is highly preferred.

This is a part-time (80%), 1-year term appointment. It may be renewed, depending on availability of funding and successful progress of the research. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date for the position is June 1, 2008.  A letter of interest, detailed CV, and names of 3 referees should be sent to:
