Wound Healing Skills
- Hands-on workshops for lower-leg assessment/compression therapy and
wound bed preparation support skills development based on the knowledge
acquired in S1
- Prerequisite for S3
Objectives
At the conclusion of the Lower Leg Assessment & Compression Therapy
Workshop you should be able to:
- Describe a basic approach to lower-leg assessment
- Demonstrate a lower-leg assessment
- Discuss treatment options for compression therapy
- Demonstrate application of compression therapy
At the conclusion of the Wound Bed Prep Workshop, you should be able
to:
- Describe the role of debridement, infection control and moist interactive
healing in wound healing
- Distinguish between the different types of dressing categories and
their appropriateness for patient care
- Discuss the five different types of debridement
- Practice and demonstrate sharp debridement skills in a laboratory
setting
- Describe in simple terms the anatomy and physiology of skin, subcutaneous
tissue and bone
By the end of S2 you should be able to:
- Discuss the significance of policy and procedures related to wound
management skills
- Be prepared to work under the supervision or preceptorship of a skilled,
advanced wound-care clinician to develop clinical skills in a practice
setting
