CAWC Three-part Educational Series (S-series)

You must know what you don’t know
You must be able to obtain appropriate knowledge, training and experience
You must be able to prove what you do know
You must know what you still don’t know!

This S1-3 Educational Series consists of three parts, based on CAWC Best Practice Recommendations. The S1 and S2 sections of the program will be very interactive, through pre-session readings, workbooks, case-study learning and hands-on skills labs. The S1 and S2 can be followed by the S3. Motivated individuals who have completed the S2 can then undertake the S3, which is the development of an individualized, self-directed strategic plan for further learning.* The series includes:

S1 – Knowledge Learning: Understanding the CAWC Best Practice Recommendations
and
S2 – Hands-on Workshops in the Fundamental Wound Healing Skills
and
S3 – Reflective Learning & Practice Portfolio

* It is necessary for you to have completed either the S1 and S2 OR the International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course (IIWCC) and the S2 prior to entering into the S3 Reflective Learning & Practice Portfolio.

Series Overview
The 3-part educational series of the Canadian Association of Wound Care is based on the four Canadian Best Practice Recommendations for Wound Management, which have been developed by the CAWC. They include: Wound Bed Preparation, Pressure Ulcers, Venous Ulcers and Diabetic Foot Ulcers. The series is composed of three linked sections that together will enhance the understanding; skills and effectiveness of the wound-care clinician. The Canadian Association of Wound Care’s Education Committee, the University of Toronto and multidisciplinary wound-care specialists from across Canada and around the world have collaborated to develop this national program.

The S1, or Knowledge Learning, section can be taken separately from the S2. It is the prerequisite for S2.

The S2, or Skills Learning, section is composed of two hands-on workshops in the fundamental wound-healing skills. Applicants must have completed S1 to register for S2.

If you have taken the S1 section at a previous CAWC seminar you are eligible to register for S2 or you can register for both S1 and S2. The completion of both S1 and S2 is the prerequisite for S3, the Reflective Learning & Practice Portfolio. A certificate of completion will be awarded to all those completing the S3.

This series is an introduction to advanced studies in wound care offered through the University of Toronto, specifically the International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course (IIWCC).

Completion of each section will be acknowledged with a letter, and a CAWC Certificate will be awarded at the successful completion of all three sections.

Program content has been developed by the CAWC independent of corporate input. However, the generous application of unrestricted educational grants from CAWC corporate members has helped make this initiative possible.
